The 310.23 was initially used between Vienna and Krakow, and from 1914 onwards on the Emperor Franz Joseph Railway to Prague. After the end of the First World War, it lost its suitable routes and was taken out of service in 1935. However, the German Reichsbahn put the locomotive back into service with the designation 16 008. From 1956, it was relegated to the role of preheating unit 01015 before being decommissioned in 1960.

In 1974, it was placed on display as a monument next to the TMW (Tourist Museum Vienna). For the 150th anniversary of railways in Austria in 1987, the 310.23 was restored to working order. Since then, it has hauled numerous heritage trains both domestically and internationally. Since 1999, it has been housed at the Strasshof Railway Museum.



Die 310.23 war anfänglich zwischen Wien und Krakau und ab 1914 auf der Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Bahn bis Prag im Einsatz. Nach Ende des ersten Weltkriegs verlor sie ihre geeigneten Strecken und wurde 1935 abgestellt. Die Deutsche Reichsbahn setzte die Lok jedoch mit der Bezeichnung 16 008 wieder ein. Ab 1956 blieb ihr nur noch der Dienst als Vorheizanlage 01015, ehe sie 1960 ausgemustert wurde.

1974 wurde sie als Denkmal neben dem TMW aufgestellt. Zum 150-Jahr Jubiläum der Eisenbahn in Österreich 1987 wurde die 310.23 betriebsfähig aufgearbeitet. Seither führte sie zahlreiche Nostalgiezüge im In- und Ausland. Seit 1999 ist sie im Eisenbahnmuseum Strasshof beheimatet.
